Storm Thorgerson (UK)

Born in 1944 in Middlesex, Thorgerson has occupied the position of one of the British rock industry’s most iconic record cover designers. He is associated with the design studio Hipgnosis, which dissolved in 1983, and for whom he designed several famous covers, not least for Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.

In 1987 he formed a design collective, Storm Studios, whose subsequent clients have included prominent contemporary music figures such as The Cranberries and Muse.

His graphic style is characterised by extensive use of surrealistic photographic imagery, which is altered to include deep void-like spaces and disturbing juxtapositions, such as the cover of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon (1973). His work has been extensively exhibited and collected, for decades, internationally and released in book-form anthologies.
